The team behind DJI drones has entered the e-bike motor market. 1,300W peak power, 150 Nm of torque, only 45 dB of noise — at launch, the most powerful and quietest motor on the market. You'll find it on the Whistle AXR in our Club Rossignol fleet.
DJI no longer makes only drones.
The company that defined the civilian drone industry has quietly (literally) entered the e-bike motor market. The result: Avinox M2 — at launch, the most powerful and quietest e-bike motor on the market.
You’ll find it on the Whistle AXR CA5.6, the new model in our rental fleet.
The brand recently rebranded from “DJI Avinox” to simply “Avinox” to sidestep US restrictions on Chinese technology. Same team, same product.
The numbers that matter
Avinox comes in two versions — M2 and M2S (top of the line).
| Specification | M2 | M2S |
|---|---|---|
| Continuous power | 250 W | 250 W |
| Peak power (boost) | 1,100 W | 1,300 W (on Whistle AXR) |
| Torque | 110 Nm (125 boost) | 130 Nm (150 boost) |
| Max assistance | 800% | 800% |
| Motor weight | 2.65 kg | 2.59 kg |
| Noise | max 45 dB | max 45 dB |
For context: even the high-end Bosch CX Race and Shimano EP801 top out somewhere between 85 and 100 Nm. Avinox M2S — 150 Nm.
What’s changed from the first generation
Three things redesigned from scratch:
- The cooling fins are now functional. On the M1 they were cosmetic. On the M2 they actually dissipate heat — meaning you can hold peak power longer on long climbs without thermal throttling.
- Double-helical gears. Stronger and, more importantly, quieter — hence the 45 dB.
- Boost is now the standard. What was “boost” on the M1 (1,000W / 120 Nm) is the normal mode on the M2. The M2S boost climbs to 1,300W on the Whistle AXR build (the motor is capable of more — the difference comes down to the bike maker’s firmware).
Smart details that matter on the trail
It’s not just about the numbers. Avinox has built in a few features that change the real-world experience:
- Smoothshift. With an electronic SRAM drivetrain, the motor automatically eases off torque the moment you shift. You shift under load without the chain snatching.
- App tuning. Before you head out, pick your profile: more power or more range.
- Integrated heart rate. Pair a heart-rate monitor and the assistance adjusts automatically — it gives you a hand when your pulse spikes, lets you push when it drops.
- Apple Find My. The bike is locatable through the Apple ecosystem — an extra layer of anti-theft security.
- Touchscreen + USB display. A 2” touchscreen on the top tube, with a USB port to charge your phone mid-ride.
Two batteries, up to 1,400 Wh
The detail that catches you off guard: on compatible models, you can run two batteries at once — one integrated in the frame plus a detachable RS pack. 1,400 Wh total. Practically, two days of trail without a plug.
The Whistle AXR in our fleet only ships with the integrated FP700 800 Wh battery — plenty for any ride in Postăvaru.
Whistle AXR CA5.6 — find it with us
Whistle was among the first European builders to mount Avinox on a full-suspension carbon frame. AXR CA5.6 has 160mm of travel front and rear (RockShox), Shimano XT 12-speed and 24 kg total weight.
Two in M, two in L, available on-site — at the foot of the gondola in Poiana Brașov.
